Description

The Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek combines two very different sides of the Everest region in one journey. You follow the Dudh Koshi River through Sagarmatha National Park, visit Everest Base Camp and then continue towards the quieter Gokyo Valley. One of the highlights is Cho La Pass at 5,420 metres. Crossing the pass connects the classic Everest Base Camp route with the Gokyo region and adds a real sense of adventure to the trek. There are two particularly special viewpoints along the way. Kala Patthar offers one of the best views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks, while Gokyo Ri looks out across the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, glaciers and mountains of the valley. Sunrise from Gokyo Ri is especially beautiful. The route also takes you through Sherpa villages and past Buddhist monasteries, giving you plenty of opportunities to experience the culture and everyday life of the Khumbu region. What makes this trek special is the combination of famous places and quieter sections of the mountains. You experience Everest Base Camp, cross a high mountain pass and then reach the lakes of Gokyo, which feel very different from the busier main trail. For trekkers who have enough time and want to see more than the classic Everest Base Camp route, this is one of the most varied ways to experience the Everest region.
