Description

The Langtang Valley Trek is a great way to experience the Himalayas without travelling as far as the Everest or Annapurna regions. The valley feels peaceful and remote, while still being relatively easy to reach from Kathmandu. The trail leads through forests of rhododendron and pine, past rivers and traditional villages, before opening up into the wide mountain landscape of the upper valley. Langtang National Park is home to wildlife such as Himalayan tahr and red pandas, although spotting them always takes a little luck. Along the way, you pass through Tamang communities and small mountain settlements where you can experience local life and hospitality. The culture of the region is strongly influenced by Tibetan traditions, which can be seen in the architecture, monasteries, prayer flags and everyday life along the trail. As you move higher into the valley, Langtang Lirung at 7,234 metres becomes one of the most impressive peaks in the landscape. Around Kyanjin Gompa, the scenery changes again, with wide views across glaciers and the surrounding mountains. The Langtang Valley Trek is a good choice if you want a quieter Himalayan experience with a mix of mountain scenery, forests and local culture, all within a relatively short journey from Kathmandu.
